We are Eritrean Ngabae Movement. Our supreme purpose is to introduce mass politics in Eritrea. We are a grassroots movement whose sole aim is to promote an intensive and massive engagement of our people into its political life. The Elite Driven way has marginalized and divided our people totally and brought us down to our bare knees on gravel.
We are heart-struck by the ever increasingly degrading conditions of our people. We feel so ashamed just to be spectators in our own nation’s downfall. We believe Ngabae as a strategy shall enable the disenfranchised mass back to fresh re-engagement.
Ngabae will successfully harvest the rich resources of the Eritrean Diaspora in order to fully play its part to save our nation. Ngabae shall nurture democratic nationalism; thereby replacing the prevailing political cynicism by politics of hope.
Ngabae is aspiring for active and massive civic engagement of our people. It is a political strategy emphasizing the vitality of the mass participatory method in a political situation like ours. Our nation is so overwhelmed by all-sided crisis that badly requires mass participation to rectify and remedy the situation.
Clique or one person driven politics has brought the nation near total destruction. Crisis has been piling on top of each other for the last 26 years. We are experiencing a national psychosis now. Glaring facts and unbearable socio-economic and political realities do not matter; our human political nerves are numb. Exodus of the youth? Almost non-existent real employment? Silent and absolute hunger? Lack of water? Lack of electricity? Lack of telecom? Lack of affordable rent? Lack of business opportunities? Lack of political life? Lack of family life? What, when and where is the threshold?
“Double think” has captivated us. To our dismay; indifference and apathy has become the acceptable mode of political behaviour. Our Ngabae movement strongly believes that our desperate situation is reversible. It is not just doom and gloom all over and forever. The dawn of our liberation is in our control. It may seem to be simplistic, but all what it takes is mobilizing our people effectively at grassroots level. We call upon every Eritrean that he or she has a share to play. Your active involvement is indispensable for our nation. As is commonly said, “if not you, then who? If not now, then when? If not this situation, then what?”
Ngabae shall dedicate its resources to freshly inspire the will of our people to liberate itself. Dear compatriots; our people need your skills, your wisdom, your strength, your pride, your influence, your compassion to serve, now more than ever. The need for change is overdue. Every one of us has to leave his or her comfort zone and reach out to any Eritrean. A change of our situation starts with a change in you. A change of your political behaviour shall initiate the change of your national politics.
Dear fellow Eritrean citizens; we should not wait for any entity to solve our nation’s problems. We have been waiting for 26 years. The crises are getting worse every day. We need to own our problems, stop the blame game, stop the idle talk, stop squabbling each other, avoid zero sum struggles. Let’s roll our sleeves and get to work, hands-on. Let’s focus on national tasks and agendas.
Accordingly, forming local BAYTOS is the name of the game. This basic strategy is the beginning of the long journey of the fixing process. Let all our energy be invested towards establishing BAYTOS all over. These Baytos full of stored energy of local citizens will definitely know what to do and how to do things that matter to us. The healing process will immediately start. Once again, we will enjoy our identity as Eritreans. We have been working together, dying together for our national independence. Why wouldn’t we do it for self-liberation?
We, Ngabae movement members are just like you; ordinary oppressed Eritreans. We are neither better nor worse than you. Ngabae is a mass movement and has no political power aspirations at all. Any Eritrean is welcome to join us and any member of us may leave at any time.
Ngabae goes beyond politics of the day. Rightly put, a modern nation is always in plebiscite. Therefore, Ngabae proposes a permanent mass engagement in national politics in order to safeguard our peoples’ interest. Our vision is to see the Eritrean political power shared like any normal modern nation. Political parties, citizen advocacy groups, independent mass organizations, and all kinds of movements should be allowed to flourish. A robust nation is a product of free cultural, economic and political set up.
